Jolie Hicks

Dr. Jolie Hicks is a Teaching Assistant Professor of Secondary Education at Oklahoma State University. Her passion lies in teacher education, where she equips pre-service, teacher candidates, and early-career teachers to effectively meet students’ learning needs through equitable teaching practices. Her instructional philosophy emphasizes inclusive, asset-based teaching practices authentically designed to prepare educators for success in diverse, real-world classrooms. 

Dr. Hicks currently serves as the co-editor of the Oklahoma English Journal, the secretary for the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English, and as a board member of the Stillwater Literacy Council. Prior to her appointment at OSU, she was the English Education Program Coordinator and an Assistant Professor of English at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She is also a former high school English Language Arts educator and taught PK–12 music and art for a combined 19 years.

research interests: trauma-informed pedagogy, culturally relevant and sustaining practices, AI in STEM Education, place-based writing, authentic assessment, and 21st-century digital literacies in secondary education curriculum.
