BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs

Mike Yough serves as a Professor of Educational Psychology in the College of Education and Human Sciences, and the Don and Cathey Humphreys Chair in the School of Global Studies and Partnerships. He is also the Interim School Head for Educational Foundations, Leadership, and Aviation, and Director of the Motivation in Classrooms Team. He has earned a PhD in Educational Psychology from The Ohio State University.

Mike's research interests include teacher beliefs and social cognition and their effects on student motivation—especially for those students who differ from their teacher in terms of linguistic and cultural background. Specific areas of interest include social perspective-taking, teachers' sense of efficacy, teachers' sense of responsibility, and sense of school belonging. He serves as series co-editor for Theory to Practice: Educational Psychology for Teachers and Teaching and sits on the review board for Theory into Practice, Educational and Developmental Psychologist, and Frontiers in Psychology. He was a Visiting Scholar at Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (Mexico) in Spring 2023 and a Fulbright Scholar based in Universidad del Norte (Colombia) in Spring 2024. He has been with OSU since 2016. 

He and his dog Theo serve as a team in Pete's Pet Posse (OSU's pet therapy program). He is an active member of the community serving on the board of the Payne County Audubon Society.
