BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs
Dr. Joe Terantino is an associate professor of Foreign Language Education and English Language Learning and Stella V. Andersen Endowed Professor in Secondary Education. Terantino is an avid traveler and food and sports enthusiast who enjoys soaking in the world around him and sharing his experiences with others. He is passionate in his support for public education and therefore dedicates his service work to assist language teachers and teachers of English learners. He currently serves on the executive board for the Oklahoma Foreign Language Teachers Association, the World Languages advisory board for the Oklahoma State Department of Education, and in a supporting role to various school districts throughout the state, including Oklahoma City, Stillwater, Tulsa, and others. Prior to coming to OSU in 2018, he served as director for the language resource centers at Brown University and Kennesaw State University. Dr. Terantino's chief goal in higher education is to assist in the development of quality teachers. To accomplish this, his teaching activities are designed to meaningfully connect students to aspects of real-world teaching and student learning that enable them to achieve mastery of key skills and concepts. His research focuses on online teaching and learning, the meaningful integration of Web 2.0 technologies and social media in education, and the development of students' intercultural competence. He has received and participated in numerous grant projects, and his work has been published in CALICO, Language Learning & Technology (LLT), and the Online Journal for Distance Learning Administration (OJDLA).
