BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs
I am an assistant professor of Curriculum Studies in the School of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Sciences (STLES) at Oklahoma State University (OSU). I am a curriculum studies generalist who is deeply influenced by a background studying in the arts and humanities. I received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Kent State University in Ohio, and my dissertation was awarded the American Association for Curriculum and Teaching's (AATC's) 2020 John Laska Dissertation Award in the category of curriculum. Prior to my current position with OSU, I taught art and English both domestically and internationally.
Research Interests:
Navigating and challenging the longstanding, dehumanizing heritage present in education, curriculum and teaching is the backbone of my academic pursuits. My scholarly and creative projects dwell in the art of living with attention given to everyday curriculum experiences, holism, aesthetics, artmaking, and ecologies. The curriculum question that feeds my curiosities is, How might we live together within ourselves, other humans, and the more than human world? Methodologically, my work is qualitative and draws upon pragmatism and the arts for various stages of research. My current inquiry project is an exploration into the living nature of contemplative curriculum in higher education through educators and students experiences.
