BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs

Hongyu Wang is a professor in Curriculum Studies at the School of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Sciences at OSU. She had a Master's degree from East China Normal University and a PhD in Curriculum Theory at Louisiana State University. Her major teaching and research areas are nonviolence education, cross-cultural curriculum dialogues, social justice education, subjectivity and personhood, college curriculum and teaching, international wisdom traditions, and philosophy of curriculum. Currently she is passionate about reformulating the principle of nonviolence in the context of curriculum studies.

She has published extensively in curriculum studies, including several important books, "The Call from the Stranger on a Journey Home: Curriculum in a Third Space" (2004), "Cross-cultural Studies in Curriculum: Eastern Thought, Educational Insights" (2008) (co-edited with Claudia Eppert; AESA Critics' Choice award, 2009; AERA Outstanding Book Recognition, 2010), "Nonviolence and Education: Cross-cultural Pathways" (2014), "Contemporary Daoism, Organic Relationality, and Curriculum of Integrative Creativity" (2021), and "Awakenings to the Calling of Nonviolence in Curriculum Studies" (Book Launch YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRW3BwKwvc0&t=1886s).

Research Interests:

curriculum theory; nonviolence studies; East/West inquiry; international studies; philosophical studies in eduction; curriculum studies and pedagogy in higher education; analytical psychology.
