BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs

Dr. Xu Zhang received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Virginia Tech in 2013, under the supervision of Tao Lin. From 2013 to 2016, he served as a Golomb Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University. Prior to joining Oklahoma State University, he was an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Mississippi State University from 2016 to 2019.

Dr. Zhang’s research lies in numerical analysis and scientific computing, with a focus on finite element methods. His recent work centers on immersed finite element methods for interface problems and their applications. He has been the recipient of multiple research grants from the National Science Foundation. In 2021, he received the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities, and in 2023, he was honored with the OSU Distinguished Early Career Faculty Award.
