TEACHING SUMMARY

Prof. Tim Brown has a strong background in analog circuits and devices, especially in relation to traditional and emerging hardware for computation. He loves doing "outside" reading about the biographies of engineers and historical context for the problems they were trying to solve, and believes that these extra details can help humanize course topics and motivate students. For example, did you know Alexander Graham Bell was a tutor for the deaf and his primary purpose in inventing the telephone was to woo one of his deaf students? Tim is interested in the capability of AI to personalize student learning, but cautious about its potential for short circuiting critical thinking.

TEACHING

  • COURSE TAUGHT
    Electronic Devices and Applications
    12 Jan 2026 - 1 May 2026
Semiconductor electronic components including MOSFETs, BJTs, JFETs, and OpAmps. Emphasis on device models and use of solid state electronic devices to analyze, synthesize and design amplifiers and switching circuits. SPICE simulations are extensively utilized. Basic building blocks for analog and digital applications. Theoretical concepts and methods are demonstrated and reinforced through laboratory exercises. Course previously offered as ECEN 3313.Prerequisite(s): ECEN 3714 with a grade of 'C' or better and ENSC 2611 with a grade of 'C' or better.
