BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs
Tim O'Connell is a wildlife ecologist in the department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management where his primary interest in ornithology informs his research, teaching and student mentoring, and professional activity. Firmly rooted in the Land Grant tradition, Tim places great value on the role of faculty sharing their specific time and talents through outreach and other engagement with the broader community, and in the leadership of professional societies. He is past-president of the State College (PA) Bird Club, Payne County Audubon Society, and Oklahoma Ornithological Society. He is the current President of the Wilson Ornithological Society. Originally from central New York, Tim's career took him to Virginia and Pennsylvania before taking a position with the Department of Zoology in 2003. In 2006, he was a founding member of the department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at OSU.
Research Interests:
I am a wildlife ecologist who applies principles of landscape ecology to inform and advance conservation of rare or declining species. My primary work involves distribution and abundance of birds and mammals, habitat selection amid land use and climate change, ecological indicators, and the influence of human activities on wildlife populations, especially mortality from collision with human structures.
