Faculty and staff play a crucial role in creating and maintaining a culture of care at Oklahoma State University by identifying and assisting students who show signs of emotional, physical, or psychological distress. This training will discuss warning signs of students in distress, effective ways to respond to and support students, and strategies for connecting students with the appropriate resources. Any faculty or staff member who works directly with students in any capacity is highly encouraged to attend this training to learn how to best support students who are experiencing any number of life circumstances including experiences with mental health, sexual violence, grief, and more.

Through a demonstration of the online procedure in Cornerstone, we'll answer the question of "why" the performance review process is important. We'll break down the system to a step-by-step process each supervisor should take, as well as give tips on best practices, for the most effective delivery and use of this important tool.

Like our in-person physical body language, digital body language concerns the subtle cues that signal things like your attitude, level of engagement, intentions and expectations. We send these messages by email, text, on the phone or in a video call to name a few of the modes of digital communication. The way in which you communicate digitally says a lot about you. However, digital body language is more difficult to grasp and interpret than physical body language, which inevitably leads to misunderstandings. For effective communication in the workplace, it’s important to learn how to control your own digital body language and correctly interpret that of others.

What is our role as supervisors that manage student employees? In this course, representatives from OSU’s Career Services and Talent Development will look at student employment as a whole, hiring student workers, the role of student employment and retention, developing students while employees, and the best practices for supervising student workers.
