Rachel M. Schmitz, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Oklahoma State University. Her research and teaching interests include qualitative methods, families, health inequalities, resilience, and human-animal bonds. Her current work emphasizes the voices and lived experiences of multiple marginalized people in rural regions and their understandings of health as well as how people conceptualize the role of companion animals in their lives.
