TEACHING SUMMARY

Prior to joining Oklahoma State University, I taught several courses at NC State University providing instruction to both undergraduate and graduate students. I taught BAE 321—Bioprocess Engineering Fundamentals for four years, co-instructed the two-semester senior design course for five years BAE 451—Capstone Engineering Design I and BAE 452—Capstone Engineering Design II, and enhanced graduate student outputs teaching research methods for three years to MS and PhD students BAE 591/791—Research Methods I and BAE 592/792—Research Methods II (MS, PhD). I also taught BAE 425/525—Industrial Microbiology and Bioprocessing and spent the most time in the classroom teaching BAE 315—Properties of Biological Engineering Materials for seven years. I served as the advisor of the student branch of ASABE at NC State for eight years and advised the BAE GSA for 17 years. My student organization advising has focused on engaging, advising , and mentoring students on professional development, leadership, teamwork, interpersonal communication, life-long learning, socialization, wellness, and fundraising. In 2011 I received A.W. Farrall Young Educator Award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) and I recognize the importance of quality instruction and rich educational experiences.
