BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs
Professor Mansy received his PhD in Architecture, with honors, from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 2001, MSc in Architectural Engineering from Helwan University in Egypt in 1992, and BSc in Architectural Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt in 1984. While in Egypt, his architectural practice won numerous design competitions, and while in Chicago he worked for ELN Engineering and SOM (Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill). In Stillwater, he built the first Energy Star-labelled single-family home in the city.
Over the years, Dr. Mansy received recognition from the NSF (US National Science Foundation), NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards), IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology), SBSE (Society of Building Science Educators), CSI (Construction Specification Institute), the Leading Edge Design Competition, the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers, and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO.
Parallel to his teaching, he carries out a focused research agenda. His research and publications address topics such as, daylighting, passive and active building systems, building performance, design-assisting tools, building rating systems, sustainable design, carbon footprint, climate action, and engineering education. Some of his research projects were funded by the NSF (National Science Foundation) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). He often serves as a reviewer for national and international conferences, such as ACSA, ARCC, Façade Tectonics, PLEA, and Solar, as well as for journals such as, Solar Energy, Energy & Buildings, Engineering Research, and Civil Engineering & Architecture. He provided peer review of the scholarly output of the Department of Energy's Building Technology Office (BTO), the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), and the AIA (American Institute of Architects). In addition, Dr. Mansy published two books, "Design Guidelines for Sustainable Biological Field Stations", Oklahoma Academy of Sciences, ISBN: 978-0-9843264-1-9, and "Integrative Design, Building Systems for Architects and Architectural Engineers", Cognella Academic Publishing, First Edition 2016, ISBN: 978-1-63487-265-2. The revised second edition of his book "Integrative Design" was published in January 2023, ISBN: 979-8-8233-0769-7.
Research Interests:
Architectural Science
Integrative Design and Systems Coordination
Building Performance
Passive Systems, with Special Emphasis on Daylighting
Climate Action
