BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs
Kathryn Weinland earned her M.Ed. from the University of Arkansas and her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with a cognate in Educational Psychology from Oklahoma State University. She also holds an Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in School Counseling. Dr. Weinland serves as the course coordinator for PSYC 1113 (Introduction to Psychology), Faculty Advisor for the Psychology House Living-Learning Program, and a Faculty Fellow for the Hargis Leadership Institute, where she helps develop leadership initiatives and micro-credential programs focused on ethical leadership and student development. She also coordinates the Payne County Jail education program, which provides opportunities for individuals who are incarcerated to earn a high school diploma.
Dr. Weinland is passionate about student success and is committed to creating meaningful educational experiences that emphasize empathy, leadership development, and innovative teaching practices. Her teaching and scholarship focus on classroom technology, active learning, student engagement, and leadership development in higher education. She is particularly interested in how instructional tools and gamified learning strategies can promote participation, collaboration, critical thinking, and student well-being in the classroom. Her work focuses on helping students develop academically, personally, and professionally both inside and outside of the classroom. In recognition of her teaching and mentorship, she received the 2022 Excellence in General Education Teaching Award and was also honored with the Outstanding Faculty Member for Undergraduate Instruction Award for the Department of Psychology in 2026.
