TEACHING SUMMARY

Dr. Julie Croff’s teaching and educational leadership span undergraduate and graduate public health education, interdisciplinary program development, and research mentorship. She was the founding director of Oklahoma State University’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program, which was the first new interdisciplinary academic program approved at OSU in more than 30 years. In this role, she lead teams that establish the program’s curriculum and educational foundation and contributed to building interdisciplinary public health training across the university.

Her primary classroom teaching has included Principles of Health Education and Promotion at the undergraduate level and Foundations of Public Health and Cultural Issues in Health at the graduate level. Across these courses, her teaching has emphasized the application of public health principles to real-world health challenges, the social and cultural contexts that shape health and health behavior, and the importance of translating evidence into effective programs, policies, and practice.

As her research and leadership responsibilities have expanded, Dr. Croff’s educational role has increasingly shifted from traditional classroom instruction to individualized research mentorship and education across academic, clinical, and community settings. She mentors students, trainees, early-career faculty, and developing investigators in research design, scientific writing, grant development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the translation of research into meaningful public health impact. She also contributes to the education of medical students and residents and is a frequent invited speaker, delivering keynote addresses, scientific presentations, professional trainings, and community talks on topics spanning substance use, maternal and child health, adversity and resilience, research methodology, and the translation of science into practice. Across these settings, her approach emphasizes making complex evidence accessible and useful while developing the skills, confidence, and independence of the next generation of researchers and health professionals.
