Glenn Dewey

Professor Glenn Dewey came to the Greenwood School of Music after an illustrious career as a member of "The President's Own" US Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra in Washington DC. During his 28-year career with this elite ensemble (15 of these years as Principal Bass), Mr. Dewey provided direct musical support for five Presidents of the United States, nine Commandants of the Marine Corps and performed for thousands of concerts, White House events, receptions and educational outreach initiatives including seven inaugurations, eight national concert tours and hundreds of performances during the bands' public concert series. He has performed over 150 Marine Chamber Orchestra concerts and more than 500 concerts with the Marine Band.

Mr. Dewey has performed in 49 of our 50 states and also abroad in Canada, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. He has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana Illinois, Benaroya Hall in Seattle Washington, Strathmore Concert Hall in Bethesda Maryland, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, and frequent performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.

A versatile instrumentalist who performs regularly on both double bass and electric bass, Glenn has performed with Jazz and Commercial artists such as Kenny Werner, Terell Stafford, Arturo Sandoval, Stevie Wonder, Sir Paul McCartney, Lee Greenwood, Sammy Nestico, Jamey Aebersold, Manhattan Transfer, Toby Keith, Larry Gatlin, Steve Allen, Paul Winter, and Michael Feinstein.

As a classical performer, Mr. Dewey has worked with artists such as YoYo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, and Leon Fleisher and he has played under the baton of Minnesota Orchestra's Music Director Osmo Vänskä, Detroit Symphony Orchestra conductor Leonard Slatkin, and Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Glenn can also be heard performing on the Naxos recording "Carmen Symphony" under the baton of conductor and composer José Serebrier. Glenn won an Emmy Award for Best Special Event Programming for his participation in The US Marine Band's three-part series on PBS television of "The All-Star Band – Masterpieces for Symphonic Band" Directed by Maestro Gerard Schwartz. Mr. Dewey is a featured soloist on the Grammy-nominated two-disc recording titled "John Williams and The President's Own".

Professor Dewey has been a part of the music faculty at Millikin University in Decatur Illinois, Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and Northern Virginia Community College and prior to joining OSU completed 28 years as the Professor of Bass at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. At GMU Mr. Dewey held positions as Director of Jazz Combos, and Area Coordinator of the string program and during his last 10 years was the Executive Producer of Mason Music Productions. Additionally, for ten years Glenn was the Director of the summer chamber music camp "Ovations Chamber Strings".

Graduates of Mr. Dewey's studio have been accepted into programs at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Scotland, the Curtis Institute, the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Eastman School of Music at the University of Southern California. They have won auditions for festivals such as Brevard and the Castleton Festival, and become freelance musicians throughout Washington DC, New York, New Jersey, Boston, and throughout the eastern seaboard. They also perform with ensembles such as the Southbank Sinfonia in London England, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, the Maryland Symphony, Fairfax Symphony, and the United States Navy band Washington DC.

Professor Dewey studied at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and a Master of Music Degree from Northwestern University.

Mr. Dewey currently resides in Stillwater, Oklahoma with his wife Lori. They have three wonderful children, Andrew, Miles, and Corinne, a granddaughter, Jaina, and 2 golden retrievers named Sadie and Maya.
