BIO & RESEARCH INTERESTs

Elbing's research focuses on identification of fluid mechanisms within complex high-Reynolds number flows. His research includes flow control (active and passive methods), sound from tornadoes at frequencies below human hearing, and multiphase flows (e.g. annular film thickness). His research has been published in top fluids (e.g. Journal of Fluid Mechanics) and acoustic (e.g. Journal of the Acoustical Society of America) journals. In addition, his work has been featured in numerous articles (e.g. Physics Today, Wired Magazine, IEEE Spectrum), radio shows (e.g. NPR's All Things Considered), and in a mini-documentary series on the National Geographic Channel.
