Dr. Chia-chen Yang is a Professor of Educational Psychology. Her research centers on the psychosocial development of young people in the digital age. Specifically, she examines how adolescents and emerging adults engage with communication technologies and the role digital media plays in shaping their identity development, social relationships, and socioemotional well-being.

 

Dr. Yang’s interdisciplinary work bridges developmental science and communication research. Her publications appear in top journals across both fields, including Journal of Youth and Adolescence, Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology, Computers in Human Behavior, and Cyberpsychology, Behavior, & Social Networking. In 2017, she received the Emerging Scholar Best Article Award from Journal of Youth and Adolescence. Based on standardized citation metrics published by Elsevier and Stanford University (2021-2025), Dr. Yang’s single-year research achievements have ranked her among the world’s top 2% of scientists in her field for five consecutive years.

 

Dr. Yang's research was featured in The New York Times article, "Technology and Loneliness" (November 10, 2024), which explores the influence of digital technologies on social connection. She provided expert insights into how technology shapes social well-being. Furthermore, Dr. Yang was awarded a prestigious Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award for the 2026–2027 academic year, furthering the international reach and impact of her research.
