Brian McKinney

Current Courses

Dr. McKinney teaches two courses in the Department of English at Oklahoma State University:

• ENGL 2233: Writing as a Profession. An undergraduate course that introduces students to the genres, practices, and collaborative work of professional writers.
• ENGL 5201: Writing Center Pedagogy. A graduate seminar that prepares new Graduate Teaching Associates to tutor in the OSU Writing Center and is designed to serve as the center's CRLA ITTPC Level 1 tutor training program

Previous Teaching

Before his current appointment, Dr. McKinney taught ENGL 1123: International Freshman Composition I at OSU (Spring 2025) and taught academic literacy, academic interaction, university immersion, and community English courses at OSU's English Language and Intercultural Center (2021–2024). At the University of Central Oklahoma, he taught graduate TESL courses in second language acquisition and in cultural and linguistic diversity (2020–2021). He began his teaching career in K–12 and community settings, teaching ELL literacy and newcomer English at Santa Fe South Charter High School (2017–2019) and adult ESL through Community Literacy Centers in Oklahoma City (2019). He received the Gene B. Halleck Annual Award for Outstanding Student Teacher at OSU in 2021 and 2022.
