TEACHING SUMMARY

https://burkett.okstate.edu/what-i-teach

I teach courses in geology, paleontology, paleoceanography, and microscopy with an emphasis on active learning, scientific interpretation, and hands-on research experiences. My teaching approach focuses on helping students understand how scientific knowledge is developed through observation, experimentation, and evidence-based reasoning.

I am passionate about making geoscience accessible and engaging for students with a wide range of interests and career goals. Through classroom activities, research mentorship, and field and laboratory experiences, students develop practical skills in scientific communication, analytical techniques, and data interpretation. I also incorporate modern technologies and real-world research examples into my courses, including opportunities connected to oceanographic expeditions and advanced imaging methods.
