Amy Waters

Amy Waters is a Ph.D. graduate in Music and Human Learning from The University of Texas at Austin where she trains preservice music educators in the principles of elementary general music and child development. Her research is driven by a passion for helping music educators develop the capacity to support the cultural adaptation and musical identity formation of student immigrants. Before pursuing her doctorate, she taught elementary general music in the Atlanta area at a school serving students from over 50 nations, and she has worked actively as a children's choir director for students aged 7-18. Melton holds a B.M. in music education from Columbus State University, where she was designated as the university's Scholar of the Year and funded as a Spencer Scholar to study at Oxford University. Outside of academia, she enjoys singing and playing keys in improvisatory pop settings in Austin and is currently producing a solo album of original songs.
